Ufa
Ufa (Russian: Уфа́; IPA: [ʊˈfa]; Bashkir: Өфө, Öfö; IPA: [ʏ̞ˈfʏ̞], 
pronunciation ) is the capital city of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia, and the industrial, economic, scientific and cultural center of the republic. Population: 1,105,667 (2015).
History
Ancient History — 16th century
Early history of the surrounding area of Ufa out in Paleolithic times.
Presumably in the 5th to the 16th centuries on the site of Ufa there was a medieval city. On the map of Pizzigano brothers (1367) and on the Catalan Atlas (1375) approximately on the Belaya River was designated a town Pascherti (Bashkort), On the Gerardus Mercator's map (1554) also marked the settlement with the Pascherti name. French orientalist Henri Cordier associates the position of Pascherti with the current location of Ufa.
Ibn Khaldun among the largest cities of the Golden Horde called the town Bashkort.
Russian historian of the XVIII century Peter Rychkov wrote that on the territory of Ufa before the arrival of the Russians there was a great city.

Universum Film AG
UFA (formerly Universum Film AG, today UFA GmbH) is a German motion-picture production company headquartered in Babelsberg, a district in the Brandenburg state capital of Potsdam.
Universum-Film was established on December 18, 1917, as a direct response to foreign competition in the realm of film and propaganda. Ufa was founded by a consortium headed by Emil Georg von Stauß, who was a board member at Deutsche Bank.
In 1925, financial pressures compelled the company to enter into distribution agreements with the American studios Paramount and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer to form Parufamet. Ufa's weekly newsreels continued to contain reference to the deal with Paramount all the way up to 1940, at which point "Die Deutsche Wochenschau ("The German Weekly Review") was consolidated and used as an instrument of Nazi propaganda. In March 1927, Alfred Hugenberg, an influential German media entrepreneur and later Minister of the Economy, Agriculture and Nutrition in Hitler's cabinet, purchased Ufa and transferred it to the Nazi Party in 1933.

A week with my family in Ufa, Russia | Bashkortostan - the land of Bashkirs and Tatars
Bashkortostan is home to Russia's biggest ethnic minorities - Tatars and Bashkirs. The Bashkirs are a Kipchak Turkic ethnic group, indigenous to Russia and they speak Bashkir language, a close relative of the Tatar language. Once Bashkirs were nomadic and they were incorporated into the great Mongol Empire, but then they joined Russia! They traditionally practiced agriculture, cattle-rearing and bee-keeping. The nomadic Bashkirs wandered either the mountains or the steppes, herding cattle, and even now people identify strongly with their village and regard this as the main social unit. I will show you the capital of Bashkortostan - Ufa and introduce you to the Bashkir national costumes, songs and dances. Ufa is one of the biggest cities in Russia, the capital of Bashkortostan Republic. It is one of the largest economic, cultural, sports, religious, and scientific centers of the country, an important transport hub, located about 1,340 km southeast of Moscow. Life in Ufa swings from major highways to quiet streets, modern nightlife to rich cultural traditions. It also regularly hosts major international competitions and events.
Ufa is exceptionally interesting for a traveler. The city is diverse architecturally and demographically, with influences from multiple distinct cultures and religions. Bashkortostan is home to Russia's biggest ethnic minorities - Tatars and Bashkirs. The Bashkirs are a Kipchak Turkic ethnic group, indigenous to Russia and they speak Bashkir language, a close relative of the Tatar language. Once Bashkirs were nomadic and they were incorporated into the great Mongol Empire, but then they joined Russia! They traditionally practiced agriculture, cattle-rearing and bee-keeping. The nomadic Bashkirs wandered either the mountains or the steppes, herding cattle, and even now people identify strongly with their village and regard this as the main social unit.
I will show you the capital of Bashkortostan - Ufa and introduce you to the Bashkir national costumes, songs and dances. And, I will also introduce you to my Tatar family who lives in Bashkortostan!

Ufa
Ufa (Russian: Уфа́; IPA: [ʊˈfa]; Bashkir: Өфө, Öfö; IPA: [ʏ̞ˈfʏ̞], pronunciation ) is the capital city of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia, and the industrial, economic, scientific and cultural center of the republic. Population: 1,105,667 (2015).
History
Ancient History — 16th century
Early history of the surrounding area of Ufa out in Paleolithic times.
Presumably in the 5th to the 16th centuries on the site of Ufa there was a medieval city. On the map of Pizzigano brothers (1367) and on the Catalan Atlas (1375) approximately on the Belaya River was designated a town Pascherti (Bashkort), On the Gerardus Mercator's map (1554) also marked the settlement with the Pascherti name. French orientalist Henri Cordier associates the position of Pascherti with the current location of Ufa.
Ibn Khaldun among the largest cities of the Golden Horde called the town Bashkort.
Russian historian of the XVIII century Peter Rychkov wrote that on the territory of Ufa before the arrival of the Russians there was a great city.
